I’m David Rock, AKA Nurse Dave. I’ve been a registered nurse for over 20 years. I’ve floated between specialties, worked in crisis situations, coordinated complex transfers from rural hospitals, and spent years face-to-face with patients in some of their most vulnerable moments. But no matter where I worked, I kept seeing the same silent barrier:
Stigma.
It wasn’t just in the diagnoses, it was in the language people used. In the hesitation to ask for help. In the fear of being seen as “crazy.” I knew from both experience and neuroscience that stigma doesn’t just hurt feelings, it delays treatment, increases suffering, and sometimes, it costs lives.
So I started writing.
Nurse Dave’s Corner was born out of a need to speak plainly and compassionately about the things that often go unspoken, especially when it comes to mental health. Here, I combine brain science, nursing experience, and a calm, clear tone to help people make sense of what they’re going through or witnessing in someone they love.
My first book, Rewiring Stigma, is my way of starting a different kind of conversation, one rooted in understanding the brain, not judging it.
This work isn’t about loud advocacy or quick fixes. It’s about quiet clarity. It’s about creating resources that help people come to their own conclusions armed with facts, not fear.
Thanks for being here. You’re not alone.
